How can I know the love of Christ?

Who knows better how to run a machine than the machine’s creator?  In the same way, God, as the creator of the universe, has a perfect plan for all of us.  In short, he calls us all to become disciples, or students, of his son Jesus.  By committing ourselves to Jesus we live life God’s way, not ours.  And living the kind of life God calls us to means that we belong to him for eternity.  We can have eternal life with God!

This begins by accepting God as the Creator of the world, and admitting that we have done wrong (sinned) by denying God the ruler (Lord) of our lives.  The Bible calls this faith, confession and repentance.

But this alone is not enough.  First, repentance is not simply saying ‘I’m sorry’.  It’s much more, it’s making a commitment to never do it again.  It is as if you were heading down the wrong side of the street, realized your mistake and turned around.  How foolish would it be to hop the curb and head down the wrong way all over again?  So not only must we have faith, confess that we have done wrong and repent, we must commit ourselves by God’s grace to never sin in this way again.

Second, by rejecting God we have become guilty and deserve to be punished.  God in his grace has given us his son Jesus who identified with humankind by becoming a man. Even though he himself never sinned, he took on the punishment of sin for us.  Because of this, we may be spared the punishment we deserve. Jesus has taken it for us.  We can have perfection because of the life he lived and be spared punishment because of the life he died.  However, just as Jesus identified with us by becoming a man, we must identify with him though baptism (being immersed in water) if we are to claim his perfection for our own.  The Bible says that when we are baptized we die with Christ.  Our old, sinful ways are dead in the water and we can now live a new life through Him (Romans 6:1-7).

Third, we must not try to live this new life alone.  It is vitally important that we become a part of a local congregation of believers who can teach us and encourage us.  The Bible says that we should never give up meeting together but rather continue encouraging one another (Hebrews 10:25).

To begin your life with Christ as your Lord and Savior, simply believe that God is who he says he is, the Lord of all creation, confess that your old way of life was wrong for rejecting Him and repent of this sin, committing your self to never going that way again.  Next, find a local congregation of believers who can help you on your journey in to a new life with Christ.  Finally, identify with Christ by being baptized into him, accepting his death on your behalf so that you can live life in him.

God loves you and gave himself so that you could have eternal life with him.  If you are tired of living life your own way and have found that in the end, it leads nowhere, the time has come for a change.  Let God be God and allow him to guide your life.  Please contact us in person, by phone or email if you are ready to let God be Lord of your life.
